Presented by the Culinary Institute of Virginia, College of Culinary Arts of ECPI University, the East Coast She-Crab Soup Classic focuses on one of the region’s most-loved seafood delicacies. This highly identifiable cuisine has been a staple of area menus for decades.

Restaurants serve their individual recipes and compete for People’s Choice Awards, determined by the ballots of those attending. Critic’s Choice Awards also are given by a panel of four leading regional cuisine experts.

Everyone is invited to take part in the Atlantic Coast Kite Festival’s “Best Kite Contest.” To enter this contest, participants bring a kite that they have made or purchased and fly it at the festival. The contest consists of two parts: the actual kite itself (how it looks and how well it is made), and the participant’s ability to fly the kite. Participants must be able to fly their kites consecutively in the air for 5 minutes at a height of 100 feet. Kites will be judged on Flight (ability to fly for 5 minutes), Structural Design, Craftsmanship, and Visual Appeal. There will be three competitive divisions: Master, Novice, and Youth (ages 7-14). Trophies will be awarded for all divisions.

The Virginia International PAN Fest is a musical adventure set to the soothing sounds of steel pan music.
The festival’s casual atmosphere appeals to the island community and people of all ages who are intrigued by the unique sounds and style of steel drum music! Fusing together the rhythm of steel bands, ocean breezes, and great international food, the breathtaking Virginia Beach oceanfront becomes an “island paradise” for the weekend.

Beach Music Cruise-In, combining bands on the beach and cars on the boardwalk, blends the best of the “oldies” with dancing under the stars in a jam-packed blast to the past! Friday-Sunday, May 10-12, settle into the sand as the top Beach Music bands from up and down the East Coast descend on the Virginia Beach oceanfront in a nostalgic salute to the “good old days” of cool cars and hot tunes. Stroll the boardwalk to view classic cars, hot rods, antiques, and more.

The Pirate Party on the Beach returns to the Virginia Beach oceanfront for two rollicking days of music, mayhem, and more! This family-friendly event features activities designed to bring out the “pirate” in everyone. Pirate games, a treasure hunt, and pirate re-enactors all combine to celebrate those scallywags we all wish we could be: pirates!

Pungo Off-Road Monsters on the Beach, presented by Eastern Truck & Accessories, brings thrills and chills to the Virginia Beach oceanfront as Monster Trucks battle for ultimate sand domination! This family-targeted event is loud, fast, and exciting. A course is built right on the beach at 6th Street, with bleachers overlooking from the boardwalk. Sand dunes and junk cars combine to make the race course fast and fun for drivers and spectators alike. This is a ticketed event, with prices designed to fit the family budget. Each of the four shows is approximately 2 hours in length.

Salute to Summer is an unabashed “Star-Spangled” salute to great music, fun in the sun, and the men and women of the military who have sacrificed their lives throughout our history.

The “Heroes Walk” display stretches along the boardwalk from 16th to 32nd Streets. Original essays written by local high school students are reproduced on four by eight foot banners easily read by passers-by. Stroll the Virginia Beach boardwalk and enjoy these essays describing historical United States military conflicts. They help to remind us of the price that has been paid and is still being paid today by our United States military.

National performers electrify the diverse audience with high-energy tunes that move the crowd to dance under
the stars. Local and regional Latin acts take the stage and unite festival-goers with the rhythms of Salsa, Merengue, and Jazz. Headline performances will take place on a giant stage built right on the beach at 24th Street.

The Bayou Boogaloo Music & Cajun Food Festival is Norfolk’s annual love-fest with New Orleans’ vibrant spirit and captures the melting pot of Bayou culture. This popular 3-day festival delivers the heart and soul of Louisiana to visitors of Town Point Park in true Cajun and Creole style.

From New Orleans to the Downtown Norfolk Waterfront, two stages featuring national recording artists providing diverse cultural musical entertainment. This is the most authentic food and music festival in the nation.

The Chalk the Walk ARTsplosion takes over the Virginia Beach Boardwalk from 10:00am-5:00pm on Saturday, July 6, 2019, as artists and “wanna-be artists” gather to turn the boardwalk into an impromptu canvas of color! Artist registration will be on the boardwalk at 17th Street, and art will be on display between 15th and 17th Streets. At Chalk the Walk, participants draw four by four foot chalk drawings for three blocks along the boardwalk.

The sounds of rock, jazz, country, R&B, and more flood the Virginia Beach oceanfront for three sun-filled days over Labor Day Weekend at the Chartway Federal Credit Union American Music Festival. One of the largest outdoor music events on the East Coast, the Chartway Federal Credit Union American Music Festival brings together national, regional, and local acts to play on a gigantic stage erected on the beach at 5th Street, as well as stages in all the parks along the boardwalk. Just about every music genre is included, proving that there truly is “something for everyone.

The lights will be turning on once again at the BayPort Credit Union Holiday Lights Merry Mile, bringing joy and wonder to Hampton Roads this holiday season! From November 22 through December 31, take a shiny journey into nautical, holiday, and adventure lands – all along the beautiful Virginia Beach boardwalk. Festive fish, musical crabs, and hard-working elves – all in bright, colored lights against the clear night-time sky, are the stars of The BayPort Credit Union Holiday Lights Merry Mile. They are joined by Santa, elves, and a 40-foot tall Christmas tree erected on the beach and in the beautiful parks along the Virginia Beach boardwalk.Admission prices will be announced in the Fall.
