Tourism is booming in the Hampton Roads area.
There are now over 40,000 hotel rooms across the Hampton Roads region - and it's still not enough!
Luckily, those in the hotel business are confident about future growth, so there are new hotels and resorts being opened every year.
Here are some recent and upcoming projects that you might have missed.
In no particular order... (although the last one is pretty exciting)
Looking Back - Recent Additions
2017 was a particularly big year for hotel development in Hampton Roads.
It was then that we saw both Hyatt House Virginia Beach / Oceanfront, and Hilton Norfolk The Main opening their doors.
Hyatt House Virginia Beach Oceanfront
This fantastic venue opens right onto the beachfront, allowing visitors to enjoy a relaxing walk along the Virginia Beach Boardwalk.
Add in breathtaking ocean views, a convention center, and an indoor pool, and you have a winning formula!
Hilton Norfolk the Main
Located in the heart of Norfolk's downtown business district, this hotel is now a prominent feature of Norfolk's skyline.
In addition to a world-class conference center, this amazing establishment also boasts a number of fine restaurants, and Grain - a stylish rooftop beer garden.
This Year - A Fresh New Addition
Opened just a few months ago, the Hyatt Place Hampton Convention Center is situated across from the Hampton Coliseum, and conveniently near to the Peninsula Town Center retail complex.
Other features include a 24-hour gym, meeting facilities, and 110 spacious rooms.
Forthcoming Attractions - Hampton Roads Hotels & Resorts
The previously mentioned Peninsula Town Center is getting a hotel of its own. Coming soon to the former site of a Macy's department store, Starwood Hotels and Resorts | Element Hotel will bring 120 upscale rooms, along with a rooftop terrace, indoor pool, and state-of-the-art gym to this already exciting location.
Construction began in 2017 - so expect this one soon.
The Hampton Marina Hotel is in a transitional phase right now, switching brands from Crowne Plaza to Tapestry. It's still open - but expect some changes.
A new 98-room "Tru" brand hotel by Hilton is being proposed near the I-64, Northampton Blvd intersection. In keeping with the Tru brand, this hotel should be colorful and fun.
Another proposed development in the same area by Benna Victor Development is slated to appear around Lake Wright. Approval recently hit a snag, but they'll be off to the races once they alter plans to fit the city's requests.
An Exciting New Development at Virginia Beach
On the ocean side of 42nd Street, across from The Cavalier, the new Marriott Virginia Beach Hotel is taking shape.
Offering spectacular views of the ocean, a giant ballroom, and around 305 guest rooms, this hotel is looking to be a premier destination for tourists to the Virginia Beach area.
And, what's more is that the hotel is set to share amenities with the recently revamped Cavalier across the street.
The Cavalier Hotel is now a member of Marriott's Autograph Collection, and in conjunction with Marriott Virginia Beach will form a single Cavalier Resort, along with a proposed third hotel.
This development may just be the crown jewel of the Virginia Beach stretch - generating tourist buzz and revenue for many years to come.
A Reason to Celebrate
The projected expansion of Hampton Roads tourism promises a boost to the local economy, along with the real estate market.
With these developments, the economy is only going to grow. The future is looking bright for Hampton Roads!
