community spotlight: East Beach, Norfolk, Virginia

When new developments are built, they are often located on farmland or within areas of relative wilderness outside of a town or city. While such areas are fabulous for facilitating the construction of new properties and on relatively inexpensive land, there may be drawbacks.

For example, a new homeowner may revel in the solitude of living further from the epicenter of the town or city, but may soon begin to dread the longer commute, not only for work, but also for activities of daily life, such as heading to the grocery or hardware store, medical appointments, restaurants, or cultural activities.

The community of East Beach, northeast of Norfolk, Virginia, on the shores of Chesapeake Bay, is a picture-perfect case for a new kind of urban

All you ever wanted to know about home inspections (and a few things you didn't)

It's easy to get caught up in the rush of home-buying, especially if you've found "the one" - your dream home - and you want to secure it ASAP. And, if you're in a seller's market, you might also be anticipating some competition, so the more you can do to smooth the deal, the better, right?

Well...not always. One thing which buyers sometimes choose to forgo in an attempt to speed a deal along is the home inspection. This is a big mistake...

Why should you get a home inspection?

What $1 Million Will Get You In Norfolk

We don’t know about you, but for a good many of us there was a time when we were young that the premise of having ‘a million dollars’ meant that you would be beyond set for life and you could just spend, spend, spend to your heart’s content. As you get older, you come to realize that one million dollars wouldn’t have you acting like that at all - in fact, it turns out you might do little more than buy your dream home with cash.

Which, in itself is still pretty darn sweet..

It’s equally true that a million dollars won’t get you much at all if you’re buying nice homes in New York, L.A., or Miami. You can include Washington in that super-pricey real estate group too, but here in Virginia we just can’t say enough good things about Norfolk real

The need to buy a home in Norfolk or Virginia Beach is often spurred by personal changes. When a couple decides to divorce, it brings many loose ends to tie, one of which concerns living arrangements. Inevitably a divorcing couple will find it necessary to sell a home in order to provide payments for separate housing. With this change, too, comes more decisions to make - where to live, how large of a house to purchase, and the question of proximity of both homes for the purpose of children's visitation. While the emotional stress attached to these decisions doesn't make them any easier to contemplate, it's important to think clearly for a smoother transition into a new life.
